Policy Priority

Keeping America at the Forefront

The Coalition for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) is committed to keeping America at the forefront of medical innovation by advocating for the resources and policies that drive breakthroughs in clinical and translational research. As a nationwide coalition of researchers, institutions, and industry leaders, we push for the funding necessary to accelerate discoveries, train the next generation of scientists, and ensure that life-saving treatments reach patients faster. Without sustained investment, the U.S. risks falling behind in this critical field, slowing progress in healthcare advancements that improve lives globally. By supporting CCTS, we safeguard America’s leadership in medical research and ensure a healthier future for all.

Policy Priority

Advocating for Funding

One of CCTS’s top policy priorities is securing and protecting funding for clinical and translational science to ensure continued medical innovation and progress. Federal investment in this field drives groundbreaking research, accelerates the development of new treatments, and supports the next generation of scientists working to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges. Without sustained funding, critical advancements in medicine, disease prevention, and patient care are at risk. CCTS actively advocates for strong, consistent financial support to keep America at the cutting edge of biomedical research and to translate scientific discoveries into real-world healthcare solutions.

Policy Priority

Supporting the Next Generation of Scientists

A core CCTS policy priority is ensuring strong support for the next generation of clinical and translational scientists, equipping them with the resources, training, and funding needed to drive future medical breakthroughs. Sustained investment in research career development is essential to cultivating a diverse and skilled workforce capable of tackling complex health challenges for years to come. Without proper funding, emerging scientists face barriers that slow progress and limit innovation. CCTS advocates for policies that provide mentorship, career pathways, and financial support to train the researchers who will lead the next era of medical discovery and healthcare advancement.

Impact Stories

Taking Care of First Responders in Wisconsin

The RF-DASH program equips rural firefighters with the training to prevent and respond to farm-related emergencies, protecting both people and property in agricultural communities. Thanks to its successful train-the-trainer model, the program has expanded across the U.S. and Canada, reaching thousands of first responders and community members, with growing impact in Wisconsin.

Safe Pregnancies for Moms in Alabama

A groundbreaking national study led by the University of Alabama Birmingham shows that treating mild chronic hypertension during pregnancy improves outcomes for both mothers and babies, reducing risks like severe preeclampsia and preterm birth. The findings from the CHAP trial, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, provide the first clear, evidence-based guidance for safely managing high blood pressure in pregnancy.

Diagnosing Rare Diseases Early in Massachusetts

A national study led by Tufts Medical Center found that whole genome sequencing (WGS) is nearly twice as effective as targeted testing in diagnosing genetic disorders in newborns and infants. Published in JAMA, the findings highlight WGS as the gold standard for early, accurate diagnosis—helping ensure babies receive the best possible care.
